Learn how to market and advertise a small business with our top tips and tricks to help set you apart from your competition.
Small business marketing can be a challenge – you’re running a business, you’re doing the accounting, the sales, and more. A lot of times, we see that marketing can come as an afterthought.
However, there are so many easy things that can be done to market and advertise a small business. We’ve listed our top ones below to help you get a head start on your business’s growth and goals.
Marketing & Advertising Tip 1
Look to local sites to spread the word. How to market and advertise a small business starts with using the local sites that are near your business. One that we’ve recently found local to our area (and others in Florida) is My Area Network. On this site, you can claim or add your business, add hours, specials and a button leading people to your website to learn more.
Marketing & Advertising Tip 2
See if you can collaborate with local influencers. A lot of people don’t think about influencer marketing for their businesses. This idea is becoming more and more mainstream, especially for small businesses. Partner with a local influencer or an influencer who has the target market you’re going after. When looking for someone to partner with, ask them for their press kit and pricing sheet. This will help you determine how you can work together and what your budget should be.
If you’re interested in advertising to the Orlando, Winter Park, Thornton Park, Tampa or Sarasota areas, reach out to us at BecomingALocal.com as we’d love to work with you! We built up some Instagram accounts in these areas and are offering advertising to businesses local to them OR companies who want to market to the audience we’ve grown. Here’s what our website looks like below.
Marketing & Advertising Tip 3
Try to get guest posts, features or awards. How to market and advertise a small business involves thinking outside of the box. And, doing one of these (or all three, if you can!) will help you gain exposure, and it will help you build trust with your audience.
Research publications that are relevant to your audience and reach out to them to see if they can feature your business. Follow those same publications for notification on their awards and if you can be featured for sharing a quote or thought.

Marketing & Advertising Tip 4
Start asking for reviews now. If you’re a local business, online reviews are key, especially on Google. 87% of people view online reviews as reputable as a recommendation from a friend.
If you don’t know how to set up your free Google page, we wrote an article on it here and did a video on it here. When you finish with a project, email that person or ask the person via phone to leave an online review. Then, send them the link to do so. Here’s where they show up on your Google My Business page.
You will probably have to follow up a couple of times, but don’t let that discourage you. This is important, and as they say, “The fortune is in the follow-up!”
How to market and advertise a small business can be tough at first, but practice makes perfect. Don’t try to start everything all at once; take it day by day. Set a goal one week, then once you have that down, add in another one.
