Simply Classy Cassie, blogs all things fashion, beauty, and lifestyle. We’ve interviewed her to share all she has learned in the blogging world. We hope you get inspired and learn from her helpful tips to take your social media to the next level!
Tell our readers about yourself and your blog
I’m a single momma living in Los Angeles, CA but I am originally from Georgia! I love blogging about fashion and beauty on Simply Classy Cassie but I also talk about motherhood and nutrition from time to time!
Tell us how you first got into blogging
I first got into blogging when I was pregnant with my daughter. I lived far away from my family and wanted an easy way to document my pregnancy for all of them to see! I never knew it could grow into what it has today!
How did you establish your “theme” or brand?
I honestly just fell into it! I wasn’t posting trying to grow a blog or brand, but slowly people started following me that I didn’t know and asking about my outfits and makeup! I’ve just stayed true to who I am and what I love and that has become my brand.
Where do you find the inspiration for your blog posts?
I love finding inspiration all around the city. Living in L.A. there is so much to see and it is all so inspiring! I also love traveling to get new perspectives and to refresh my mind.
What do you think is the best strategy to get more traffic to your blog?
Posting about your new blog posts on all of your social media platforms is definitely a great way to drive traffic to your blog! I also love using BlogLovin’!
What’s your favorite social media platform?
I love Instagram the most because I get to interact with my followers the most on Instagram. I love being able to share my day to day life on Insta-Stories as well as my curated images on the platform. I especially love interacting with my followers through comments and DMs.
How do you gain followers?
It’s hard to gain followers but I think having high-quality photos that your audience engages with is the best way to gain followers currently.
Once you have the followers, how do you keep them?
I try to post at least once a day on all of my social media platforms and I always respond to comments, DMs and emails promptly. It lets your followers know that you care about them and that you are interested in helping them and answering their questions.
How many times a week do you post?
On my blog, I post roughly 3 times a week and on all of my other social media platforms, I post once per day!
Is this a part of your strategy to keep gaining followers or do you post at random?
Being consistent definitely helps you gain followers. I try to post on the same days on my blog and daily on Instagram, but the time I post always varies depending on what I’m doing that day.
What are some misconceptions about social media?
I think people assume that being a social media influencer is so easy and that you just take pretty pictures and instantly grow a following but there is SO much work that goes into each post and photograph that you see online. Growing a following takes a lot of work and a lot of time that I think a lot of influencers aren’t given credit for.
How do you find relevant hashtags for your photos on Instagram?
I usually just hashtag the city or place I am at, for example, #losangeles #westhollywood #melroseave 🙂
Do you have photos taken professionally or do you take them yourself?
Most of the time a family member takes them for me!
What are some tips you can give in order to take a good photo?
Make sure you have good lighting and work on finding your angles. We all have good and bad angles so work your good ones!
What’s your favorite location to take photos?
Melrose Avenue in Los Angeles, CA and Palm Springs, CA
What are your top 3 favorite emojis?
How do you keep your website updated & relevant?
I try to change my layout once a year to keep it updated and relevant. I see what is and isn’t working for my followers by asking them and then update by what needs to change to become more user-friendly for my audience.
What apps would you recommend to our followers?
I think VSCO is the best photo editing app out there! It’s all I use to edit my photos lately!
What else do you want to add to help small business owners?
In order to grow, you really have to find your product-market fit and make it work. It’s not always easy but once you find it growth will come much easier to your business!
