I just wrapped up my first year working at an Orlando woman-owned marketing company, and what a year it has been! I’m sharing what I’ve learned, and everything I’m looking forward to in the future. 

I started working for South Street & Co. in February of 2021. While I had worked for individual clients in the past, this was my first experience working at an agency – and it’s been such a great one! Even the way that I was first introduced to Kaitlyn and her company was serendipitous to me. I had just started to look for something more than the freelance work I was doing, and the timing could not have been better. In this blog, I wanted to share some of the key reasons that I love working at this Orlando woman-owned marketing company.

South Street & Co. is a fully-remote office, and I think it’s amazing. Here’s why:

An unlimited talent pool

When your company works remotely, there’s no geographical limit placed on who can work there. While most of our team is concentrated to the state of Florida, we have a group of passionate, talented people who live all over the country. Our team wouldn’t be the same without them.

It’s efficient and productive

In my past life of 30 to 45-minute commutes in heavy traffic, I would arrive at the office stressed out. I wasn’t in the mental space to start a workday, and it would take me a while to settle into my tasks. 

Working remotely is such a contrast. My mornings aren’t as rushed because I’m only steps away from my office. I start my day by sitting down at my own desk in my own comfortable chair, with everything I need exactly where I need it. I can burn a candle, listen to my focus playlist (headphone-free) while I’m editing, and my next cup of coffee is just 30 seconds away – no more 20 minute trips to the coffee shop. I can accomplish so much more and I’m getting hours of time back in my day.

It’s Never Boring

I love the variety that comes along with working at an Orlando woman-owned marketing company. Every day I’m working with different members of the content team, creating content for different clients, and learning something new about digital marketing. Our wide variety of clients and the ever-changing industry ensures that nothing is monotonous, and it couldn’t be more rewarding to me. 

Content Creation Is A Habit

Some of my friends ask me how I can write every day and not experience writer’s block or lose inspiration. For a while, I couldn’t put a finger on the answer. The truth is that sometimes it is hard to write! 

Then the content team started reading Everybody Writes: Your Go-To Guide to Creating Ridiculously Good Content by Ann Handley. In it, she shares the following insight:

“I want to tell you that the key to taking your writing muscles from puny to brawny is to write every day. That writing is a habit, not an art.”

She continues to share that you should write every day, even if the writing is bad. Reading this was a lightbulb moment for me because I realized that was a little like what I was already doing. Even if you’re not feeling the most ‘inspired’ when you start writing, often the action of creating something is all that it takes to have an engaging and effective final product.
