Everyone has probably heard of Instagram. If not, it’s a social media site that focuses on pictures on their news feed. The pictures are in real time and are on a scrolling time line that allows the user to keep up-to-date with their follower’s happenings.
Instagram has a couple of features that are similar to those on other social media sites. It has a “heart” shaped like button, or you can double-tap the image to like it. It also has a comment option which allows you to help establish relationships with your friends or your customers.
ย When I first started using it for my business, I didn’t really think anything about it. Literally, my thoughts were, “Well, everyone else is doing it. And if big companies are doing it, then I should too.” So I did. But, it wasn’t until recently that I really started seeing a return on what I put into the account.
Social media sites are just like establishing a relationship, except behind a computer screen. In order to make new friends, you have to put yourself out there. In this case, you need to like and comment on others photos. This is how virtual friendships start and how you grow loyal followers. And this is what I did.
I started commenting and liking other people’s photos. But they weren’t just photos. Their photos were pictures of artwork, something that made them smile, or their favorite quote. This really hit home with a ton of people because you show interest in what they’re doing, therefore they like you automatically. By showing interest, it leads them back to your Instagram page and then, if they like your content and what you’re passionate about, it will lead them right to your website. Boom! Exactly where you want them. Looking over your crown jewel of your business, your online personality.
Instagram, I can honeslty say, has helped grow my business a lot. Over the past two weeks since I’ve ramped up my marketing efforts, I’ve had 5 people contact me saying they found me through Instagram. Crazy!
For those who don’t think social media works, or who think it’s not for them… You’re wrong. It is for everyone in each industry. This is a chance to make a virtual friend, have a virtual business connection and to meet people who you never had to opportunity to before.
Give social media a chance, what do you have to lose? It’s free.
