Anyone who has spent any time building an audience on social media knows that it’s not easy. Here’s how we helped a coaching client grow her follower count by over 3,000%.

In the digital landscape, it’s essential for businesses to have a strong social media presence so they can connect with their target audience and expand their reach. But, how do you reach more people and increase your follower count? This is how we were able to help a coaching client bring her total follower count from 300 to over 11,000 followers in just six months. 

The Starting Point

Our client came to us for insight and an actionable strategy that would help her grow her presence on Instagram. She was running her account on her own for a while, but hadn’t gotten as much traction as she hoped. 

She partnered with a pool company to showcase her expansive pool, and gained some followers from their collaboration. She was also boosting her posts (which means she paid for Instagram to increase the reach and number of impressions her posts got by showing them to people who weren’t current followers), and gained more followers that way. Organically, she was getting an average of 2,000 views on her posts, but it was hard to turn those views into followers. 

Our Plan

For this client we wanted to help her reach her target audience and grow from there. She was Brazilian, and wanted to share her story to inspire other Brazilians who wanted to know more about the US culture through her life. Our plan included these bullets, plus a lot more over the course of the time we worked together:

  • Testing using text as a cover image for her Reels
  • Testing posting at different times of day to see what worked best
  • Posting multiple times per day on specific days of the week
  • Using trending audio in her Reels
  • Conducting hashtag research to find more active hashtags related to her content and audience 
  • Researching potential local collaborations
  • Asking questions in her captions to spark discussions in the comments section
  • And more

Here’s a summary of some of the tactics that worked:

Testing Text Over Cover Image on Reels: To enhance the visual appeal of the Reels, we had our client experiment with adding text overlays to cover images. The results were promising because people could see what the Reel was about on her feed, and we’re going to continue monitoring for further growth.

Fine-Tuning Posting Schedule: When it comes to social media, there’s no denying the value of strategic timing. We tested different posting hours throughout the day. Notably, posting between 7:00 AM to 8:00 AM in Brazil, before most of her followers were commuting to work, yielded favorable outcomes.

Double Posting on Thursdays and Fridays: We recommended posting twice a day on Thursdays and Fridays, focusing on diverse feed content like Reels, images, and carousel posts. This approach significantly increased engagement metrics. Then, we tested different days to post multiple times.

Exploring Trending Audio: Following a recommendation from industry insights, we had our client experiment with two trending audio Reels per week. However, due to constraints in boosting posts with trending songs, we reevaluated this tactic.

Captions That Encourage Interaction: We had our client test the impact of asking questions in our captions, particularly on Sundays. This simple yet effective technique generated more comments and fostered a deeper connection with her audience. Not only that, but she had content to create future Reels from as well.

Maximizing Reach with Hashtags: By diligently researching and incorporating relevant hashtags in stories, our client significantly expanded her reach. We helped her utilize hashtags related to the image, culture, language, and her brand, driving higher engagement rates.

Leveraging Local Collaborations: To foster brand awareness and connect with a wider audience, we helped our client initiate partnerships with local businesses. Her collaboration with a closet organizer not only increased followers but also bolstered visibility.
