3 Things I Learned As An Intern

Reading Time: 2 minutes

After 2 months of being a remote Content Creative Intern at South Street & Co., I feel much more confident in my marketing abilities. As a college senior marketing student with no prior internship experience, I was nervous to take on the role at first. Thankfully, South Street & Co. taught me everything I needed to know about the role, and I am a more well-rounded marketing professional for it.

InternI have learned so much throughout this internship and am excited to share these main takeaways. Let’s get started:

Prioritizing & task organization

When everything you need to do in a day is listed on your lengthy to-do list, it’s easy to become overwhelmed with urgency. It became important for me to set honest expectations for myself at the beginning of my workday about the top priority tasks so that I was not overworked or disappointed that I wasn’t “productive enough” when 5:30 rolled around.

Keeping track of deadlines and tasks can be tricky, but I find that digital organizational tools work wonders for me. Some programs I find useful as a student, intern, and general organization enthusiast include Asana and Notion. Keeping yourself accountable to your to-do list can be a challenge when working from home. This is where workspace organization comes into play for me and I like to use my space to motivate me throughout my workday. Keeping a tidy and welcoming workspace encourages me to stay focused when working and feel like everything is put-together, even when I have what seems like a ton of questions about my newest intern project.

Professional development is a priority

At the end of the day, the main purpose of an internship is to provide the intern with professional development opportunities. My internship at South Street & Co. has been set up to include plenty of chances to learn and document new skills, like completing several professional certification courses. These are valuable, concrete skills that I will be able to apply throughout the entirety of my marketing career (it doesn’t hurt to be able to put them on my LinkedIn profile and resume too)!

My time as an intern at South Street & Co. taught me incredible marketing knowledge in a hands-on and welcoming learning environment, and I am so grateful to have found this wonderful team to work alongside.
