There’s so much more to marketing than meets the eye. My experience at a marketing agency has changed my perception on the marketing industry.

What I have realized about myself and marketing since working at South Street & Co. is that I am a dinosaur.  Now, do not get me wrong, I’m educated and can participate and have intelligent conversations with people about marketing. However, my view of marketing before working here was ads in the mainstream media. I’ve since learned that today you have to think way beyond the mainstream.

Since working here, I have learned that a small business entrepreneur has to strategically work in a different way than the mainstream media– Because after all, ads are pretty expensive.

They have to be on social media sites, such as Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. I have learned that keywords are important so that you show up first in a Google search. But, I have also learned that I think differently about using those tools than the other members of the staff.

By that, I mean I only follow my family on social media. I do not follow businesses on Pinterest, Instagram or Facebook. Now, I know you are either laughing in agreement or rolling your eyes.

If you’re like me and feel like a dinosaur in this digital world and you own your own small business, then you need the knowledge and expertise that South Street & Co. has to offer. Since working here, I’m trying to be more participatory in this digital arena, but I am a consumer, not an owner of a business.

Your business may not be on Facebook, Instagram and other social networks that are available, but your audience is! And from the get-go, I’ve been able to see what a marketing agency like us can do for inexperienced small business owners like you.

Since working at South Street & Co., I’ve moved out of the dinosaur era and I’ve begun to notice more marketing techniques in my everyday life. Marketing consumes the world whether you realize it or not. Everywhere you go, you recognize logos, labels and packaging. That’s all due to the marketing efforts we’re able to provide for our clients.
