SEO is ever-changing and if you don’t have an Orlando SEO agency working on it constantly, you’re letting your competition gain the advantage.
You’ve heard about SEO but maybe you don’t know exactly what it is. I remember “back in the day” before I started this company, I came across SEO and had no idea what it was.
I graduated with a degree in marketing from UCF but they didn’t talk about social media, email marketing or SEO like it’s taught now. It’s now a curriculum and I often go back to guest speak at classes about digital marketing.
However, when I started my first job, I had no idea what it was. After reading articles from Moz and other industry leaders, I proposed to my boss that it was something to look into. He agreed and we were after our first Orlando SEO agency from them on.
The first one wasn’t in Orlando though, they were in North Carolina and they called us on a sales pitch and I told them, “Timing is everything and you called at the perfect time as we were just talking about implementing SEO into our marketing.”
We signed up with them and after a couple of minor items, we were set up and ready to go. I kept reading up on SEO and was getting more and more versed, but I didn’t have the time to do it myself. We were having the providers write blogs (it was a dermatology practice) and were sending them over to the company so they could use the fresh content and optimize it for Google.
Then, I found it… a misspelling on our website for the word “Altamonte.” There is a chance you can still rank for a misspelled word or phrase, but the chances aren’t too high. I called the manager, spoke with them and ended up finding another company.
The second company we hired knew how to talk the talk. At that time, I told them what I knew, told them what we’d been through and mentioned expectations from them. They said they fully understood, and again, with some minor details, we were off to the races!
It started out strong, then we started to decline about 5 months into the agreement. I had an emergency call with them to inquire and the point of contact mentioned they didn’t know that we had been doing blogs ourselves and that those blogs were going against what they were doing.
It didn’t make sense to me and after I told my boss what was going on he said, “I don’t want to pay anyone to do this anymore. I want to pay you to do it, that’s why you’re here. Figure it out and let’s see what we can do.”
That was when I took a deep dive into SEO and how it can work for small businesses. We let the other company go and I started taking it over on my own. I read so many articles, watched so many videos and was able to get a grasp on it. So much so, I helped them rank on the first page for many keywords and phrases, increasing the reach and helping them double in size in the two and a half years I was there.
Fast forward to now. We’re still using similar methods of what I learned in the very beginning. A lot of the strategies have changed but the idea of helping clients rank online is the same. If you’re questioning whether you need SEO help, here are a few reasons I needed it back then when I was a Marketing Director and here are four reasons you need it now for your small business.
Reason 1: You Don’t Have Time
Frankly, when I was in charge of the marketing for a 20-office practice, I didn’t have time to do SEO. No one person does, especially when you wear a multitude of hats.
SEO is about strategy, writing, and competitive research. It takes time to do all of the parts, not to mention the additional items that were added that are important such as local listings, backlinks and on-page SEO.
Reason 2: You’re Not A Writer
When it comes down to it, writing fresh content, updating old pages and researching competitors isn’t your strong suit (it wasn’t mine back then either!). If there’s one thing I know, it’s that I was blessed with the ability to put words on a page and not everyone is blessed with that same ability.
SEO is a lot about writing good content to educate people and for Google to understand what you’re writing about. It should be captivating, easily understood and it should have a catchy headline that draws people in – and not everyone can accomplish that – which is where an Orlando SEO agency comes in.
An Orlando SEO agency, like ours, should be thought of as an extension of your company and brand. We write content for you, you approve it and we have Google crawl it. It’s simple, but it’s simple because it’s also our specialty.
Reason 3: You Don’t Know All The Avenues of SEO
There are a lot of items you need to check off on a monthly basis to ensure your SEO is working well. A couple of those items are new updates to Google Local. Now, you can add a post (like Facebook), you should update photos and you should ask a question each month.
Doing all of those items are just a few of the things you should be doing on a monthly basis.
Let’s talk about local listings. This is another area that all information should be the same across the board. Local listings are listings like Google Local, Yelp, YP.com, WhitePages.com and more. The key is making sure all info is consistent across all of the platforms. That way, if someone’s searching for your company, it’ll come up correctly.
Reason 4: You’re Not Tracking Accurate Results
In the beginning, I thought I knew a lot about SEO and how to do it. However, one avenue I forgot to look into was “was it working for us or not.” That’s the big question and the answer is, maybe, if you have your analytics set up correctly.
One big thing that should be done in the beginning is setting up Google Analytics, Google Search Console and Google Local. All of these should be ready to go in the beginning so you can see what’s working and what’s not.
To take it a step further, set up Goals in Google Analytics. These goals will enable you to track which avenues of your marketing are working and which are (what I like to call) areas of opportunity – meaning areas you need to improve upon.
Goals are associated with a thank you page that people who fill out a form on the website or who go through a specific action complete. The thank you page is only on the back end of the website and will be tracked when a goal completion is made.
An Orlando SEO agency can set this up for you in month 1. We always have a set-up month (month 1) in order to ensure we’re hitting the ground running in months 2 and beyond. This way, we can show how well the SEO is working and can focus on what people are finding the company for.
If all of this is mumbo-jumbo to you – no worries! I always offer a free 30-minute call to see if it’s a good fit for your company. Fill out the form below and let’s chat about how we can help your company succeed through SEO services!
